Saanich Peninsula Programs & Events

Little Free Libraries

Little Free Libraries are a great way to build community, inspire readers, and expand access to books for all ages. Saanich Peninsula Literacy has partnered with local municipalities and non-profit groups including the SHOAL Centre, to build, maintain and grow four Little Free Libraries on the Peninsula.

Community Storywalks

Saanich Peninsula Literacy in partnership with a variety of community organizations is pleased to offer a variety of StoryWalks in community during the summer months. A StoryWalk is a FREE, innovative, way for families to enjoy stories in the outdoors. Pages from a children’s book are hung on a fence or mounted to stakes on the ground.  As you stroll along the path, you visit each page and enjoy the story in nature, with your family.

Head Out & Read Events

Saanich Peninsula Literacy in partnership with a variety of community organizations is pleased to offer a morning of reading together, singing, stories and fun! Join us this summer for two events in local parks on the Peninsula. Details TBD.

Community Literacy Initiatives

Peninsula 1000 x 5 Children’s Book Recycling Project

This program started in 2008 on the Saanich Peninsula. Since that time it has grown in size and now includes a program in Victoria and the Westshore.  Through this initiative, gently-used children’s picture books are collected from the community. The books are delivered to our collection depot where they are screened for suitability, counted, labelled, sorted, and bagged for distribution to young children (birth-5 years) and their families.

Sidney LitFest

A celebration for readers and writers. Our next festival will take place April 20-22, 2023.  To receive occasional emailed updates about future festival planning and events, subscribe here.

Seaside Book Club

Seaside Magazine and Sidney / North Saanich Library host an adult book club in Sidney, BC for anyone interested in reading a new genre of book and talking about it with others from the community.  Members bring questions or discussion points with them and questions are drawn from a hat, keeping the discussion moving.
